-Major League Roster (25)
-Minor League Roster (25)
-IR Positions (4: red flag eligible)
-Goaltender Limitations (3 per major roster)
-Salary Cap
Major League Roster
Two additional bench positions have been added to the major league roster. This will increase the previous roster size of 23 to a total of 25 players. This will allow teams more roster flexibility to endure injuries as well as tender young players who have exceeded their minor league limitations.
Minor League Roster
The minor roster has also received an increase in roster positions. Last season we had a minor league limit of 18 players. In order to maximize teams rebuilding and trade potential, the limit will now be set at 25. There was a big push for this during the season resulting in a league vote favoring 25 minor players.
IR Positions
We are going up from 2 IR positions to a total of 4. All red flagged players will continue to be eligible to be placed on IR.
Goaltender Limitations
Previously only 2 goaltenders were allowed to be tendered on the major league roster. You will now be allowed to carry a total of 3. Keep in mind that there will not be a dedicated roster position for the 3rd goalie. If you chose to carry an additional goalie you must sacrifice a bench position in order to do so.
Salary Cap
Due to the increase in roster size, changes were necessary to the salary cap.
Previously we allowed 3.756 million per roster position. The amount per player is now decreased to 3.656 million to prevent us from making a drastic cap increase.
Old Cap
3.756 million x 23 players = 86.4 million
New Cap
3.656 million x 25 players = 91.4 million
Ultimately these numbers provide us with a percentage that we will now base our salary cap off of in the future. Our cap will now be configured at 28% above the NHL salary cap. This will allow our league to inflate and deflate smoothly with the NHL. It will also help our GM's predict and prepare for future seasons.
Keep in mind that the numbers above are only temporary adjustments to keep us afloat until the NHL releases it's cap for the 2016-17 season. Once the new cap is released our cap will change accordingly.
